The project SESAME utilizes smart metering, building automation andpolicy-based reasoning to support home owners and building managersin saving energy and in optimizing their energy costs while maintainingtheir preferred quality of living. In this paper, we present howuser-created policies are being applied to develop a system of leastinterference that supports the user in gaining awareness about energyconsumption habits and saving potentials. Proposed concepts are currentlybeing implemented and validated in an extensible demonstrator platformwhich provides a proof-of-concept for an innovative technical solution.
